| Mike's Platform Issues |
|
In 2004 Mike Kiegerl ran with the following planks in his campaign platform:
- A constitutional amendment to protect the traditional family and to prohibit same sex marriages.
- The right to life, protection of the elderly, debilitated and the unborn.
- Local control and school choice to increase opportunities for the best education for all children.
- Creating a better business climate through lower taxation, control of workers compensation and ancillary costs of creating jobs.
- More openness in government, with public transparency on all financial issues and cross-budget funds distribution.
During his term in office Mike followed up on his promises:
- The marriage amendment passed in the 2005 and was voted by the citizens to become law (70% of our district voted in favor of the amendment).
- The Personal and Family Protection Act was passed.
- Had a 100% pro-life voting record.
- Voted for HB 2247, giving the greatest increase to Kansas schools and supported Local Option Budget. he could not, however, support SB549, which shortchanged Johnson County schools.
- Introduced 2 bills to reform Workers Compensation in 2005 and 2 in 2006.
- Had a 100% voting record with The Kansas Taxpayers Network and Americans for Prosperity. I also supported HB2583, an investment tax cut.
During his next term, Mike would like to follow on these promises delivered by finishing some business yet to be done:
- We must address the separation of powers issue again
- Continue to reform Workers Compensation
- Increase benefits to injured workers and increase the cap on permanent total disability benefits without raising rates.
- We must assure that our schools get more funding than provided by the very flawed bill passed this year.
